Without question, the most requested suggestion I've had is to attach a PDF file of the material in the lesson. Well, I've finally done just that. This lesson contains 13 examples clearly notated and explained. This month I've taken on the tune "I Hear a Rhapsody" Here is the description:

Mayo Clinic Sound Envelope

The Mayo clinic here in Jacksonville is creating a covered walkway that will take visitors from the main hospital to other buildings on the property. A sound system is being installed to assure that the pedestrian will always hear sound from properly placed speakers creating a " sound envelope". I am writing the music for this project. I have about a half an hour of ambient, atmospheric type of compositions, that will continuously be played. Each cue is about a minute in length and will be randomly played to prevent any kind of repetition. I am aiming for an hours worth of music or 60 different cues. Should be very interesting:)

So What. A deceptively easy tune, but it challenges your creativity more than playing over standard chord progressions. Barry discusses numerous ways to navigate this simple two chord tune. Heading Back to Europe

Very excited about this trip. I'll be spending two weeks in Europe, a little time in Brussels and some time in Cologne. I'll be doing clinics and concerts during the trip. I'm also taking my oldest son with me, he's flipping out of course :) Here is the information:

New Contemporary Jazz CD

I have just released a new CD of contemporary jazz tunes. There are 10 original compositions on this recording. All of them feature hip grooves and plenty of guitar.
I titled this project “The Other Side” because there are a great many people who only know my traditional jazz playing. This is another side of me. Those who know me well, know that I have a deep love of R&B, Funk and Soul music. This project is a musical collage of all of my favorite styles of music.

New Trio CD!

December 15th 2009

Great time of year. Seems as though everyone has a bit of spring in their step. Of course living in Florida while it’s 81 degrees in December...not so bad.
This is my first trio record. I’ve done things where I’ve played some trio things, but on this project we played 8 standards, one take each. We didn’t play any tune more than once and were done with the session in a couple of hours. Of course, great musicians are needed for a session like this and I am lucky enough to call the following guys my friends.

I’ve known Pete for about 15 years now. We met here In Jacksonville in 1995, and did lots of gigs together, mainly with pianist Kevin Bales. Pete just has an incredible sense of swing and really knows how to contour a tune. I love the way he plays in the guitar trio format, I can’t say that about many drummers.
Dennis is just ridiculous. He has such amazing musical instincts and the most frightening ears. We have been playing together for over three years now, and I learn something from him each time we play.

I’m very happy with this recording. I think it captures who I am as a jazz guitarist in every sense.
I’d like to thank every musician I have heard regardless of style. We are a product of all musical experiences, and I am moved in some way by everything I hear. I would also like to thank the Benedetto guitar family and my fantastic sons Mitchell and Sammy.
